Hello. I've been living abroad for 21 years now. I'm an American expatriate living in Japan with my Japanese husband and our ten year-old twins. My daughter is deaf and has cerebral palsy, so we have some interesting challenges as a bi-cultural family. I'm interested in special education around the world, literature, and bilingualism.

I'm a writer - author of the novel Losing Kei (published in the U.S.) and the picture book Playing for Papa (published in Spain). I've also edited three anthologies, including Call Me Okaasan: Adventures in Multicultural Mothering (Wyatt Mackenzie Publishing) which was published earlier this month. Perhaps this book would be of interest to mothers in this forum, as it is a collection of 20 essays by women around the world on the joys and challenges or raising a child across two or more cultures.

Cheers,

Suzanne Kamata

Dear Suzanne,
thanks a lot for this beautiful introduction, and you can indulge as much as you wish on self promotion laugh.gif, I believe and hope lots of women will learn from your experience.

I am Claudia, one of the founder and coordinator of this website, I mainly work on the Italian section, but I am passioned by intercultural encounters, and I was really happy to find your message today.
On the Italian section we just published an interview to an Italian expatmother who has 5 children, one of them is disabled. When I read your post today, I thought I will try to translate it in English, so that can share more experiences and continue discussing about this certainly challenging situation.

Welcome, and I hope that you'll come back to visit sorcerer.gif
